Govt official sentenced for two years in corruption case
A government official was sentenced to two years rigorous imprisonment on Friday by a vigilance court for taking bribe two years ago. The designated judge (vigilance) Ramesh Chandra Singh also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on the Block Development Officer Jawahar Lal of West Champaran district's Ram Nagar block for taking Rs 10,000 bribe from one Gokul Yadav on July 19, 2011.

According to the prosecution, Lal in exercise of his additional charge of the Circle Officer (CO) took the bribe from Yadav for legalizing his house constructed on a land belonging to the panchayat. Yadav had subsequently lodged a written complaint with the vigilance department leading to the case.
