The competition will be held at Karthika Thirunal Girls’ High School at Manacaud on August 14.  Jnanpith award winning poet O N V Kurup, who is also the patron of Sabarmati, will inaugurate the competitions at 8.30 am by lighting the traditional lamp. Teams from about 100 schools in the city will take part in the contest. Minister for Transport V S Sivakumar will give away the prizes in the valedictory ceremony, which will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at 6 pm. Thiruvananthapuram City Corporation Mayor K Chandrika, the president of Sabarmati, Padmashree K P Udayabhanu and MLA V Sivankutty will also attend.  Addressing a press conference here on Friday, V K Mohan, the chief coordinator of Sabarmati, said that the contest is being held to revive the long-forgotten art form which has now reduced to one of the events on Independence and Republic Days. Through the contest, Sabarmati also aims to impart the messages on national integration, patriotism, religious harmony and substance abuse.  The chairman of Sabarmati Peyad Sasi and general convener S Vijayakumar also attended the press conference.
