KOCHI: The High Court on Tuesday directed the management of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Medical College Hospital, Kolenchery, to file an affidavit stating whether they complied with the Minimum Wages Notification 2009 or not.The court further directed the management to identify a place within 15 metres of the hospital’s main entrance, for the nurses to stage their agitation. Meanwhile, the nursing staff have been directed by the court to stage their protest in a peaceful manner without disturbing law and order. The court also directed the agitators not to use microphones.A Division Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice P R Ramachandra Menon, issued the directive on a petition filed by Joy P Jacob, secretary of the hospital management, seeking a directive to the police to ensure that demonstrations and processions by the agitating nurses are not carried out on the hospital campus.The petitioner submitted that the strike had affected the functioning of the hospital. He submitted that despite the protection provided, the nursing staff are carrying out protests sitting in the portico of the out-patient block, thereby hindering the proper working of the hospital. The petitioner also submitted that the strike was causing hardships to the doctors, staff, patients and the visitors at the hospital.
