BANGALORE: Heavy rains with hailstones lashed the city on Tuesday evening. Following the unexpected showers, water clogging was reported near Town Hall, S J P Park, Ramamurthynagar, ITI Colony and Gandhi Nagar. Officials in the met department said in the last 24 hours, the city had received 27.4 mm rainfall, while HAL received 9.8mm and Yelahanka 2 mm rainfall. The met department said heavy showers may  lash the city on Wednesday too. Meanwhile, many trees were uprooted near Ramakrishna Nursing Home, Jayanagar III Block, Koramangala Ganesh Temple Road, Dollars Colony II Stage, Sankey Tank Road, Sanjaynagar Post Office and Magadi Road. Mayor D Venkatesh Murthy, along with senior officials, addressed the people’s complaints. He said, “We are aware of the sanitary problems and are currently monitoring the situation. Nearly 300 workers have been appointed to clear water logs from the low lying areas.” “BBMP’s Control Room received about 26 complaints. In some of the rain-battered areas, traffic signals stopped functioning and have created traffic jams,” said a BBMP official.Meanwhile, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr M A Saleem said, “So far there have been no reports on low lying areas being inundated. All our officers were on duty and manned the traffic.”Vehicular traffic was thrown out of gear on Tuesday evening following the rain in many parts. A large number of commuters were seen stranded on various roads. Meanwhile, people were surprised to see the hailstones in some parts of the city.
