Wednesday saw moderate rain in Mumbai and heavy rain in Mulund, Thane, Kalyan and Palghar which led to flooding. While Lonavala saw a cloudburst-like situation, Kolhapur was flooded and doors to Pune's Khadakwasla dam were opened. Heavy rain and flooding was also reported in Gujarat, Noida and Delhi

Amid the heavy rain in Thane and Palghar on Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Thane, Raigad, Palghar for Thursday (July 25). Mumbai will also see moderate to heavy rain (yellow alert) on Thursday and throughout Wednesday evening. A red alert (extremely heavy rain) has been issued for central Maharashtra till July 25.

Mumbai recorded moderate to heavy rain in the past 24 hours. Wednesday saw heavy to very heavy rain on the outskirts of Mumbai such as Thane, Kalyan and Palghar. Several parts of Kalyan, Thane and Mulund were flooded. Similar to Thursday’s forecast, the IMD had issued orange alert for Thane, yellow for Mumbai, with the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) asking people to avoid stepping out if unnecessary on Wednesday.

Visuals of cloudburst-like situation in Lonavala on Wednesday surfaced on social media, even as the doors of Pune’s Khadakwasla dam were opened after the heavy rain. The downpour caused flood-like situation in Kolhapur, leading to shutting of state highways such as Kolhapur-Ratnagiri, Kolhapur-Gaganbawda, and the stretch leading to Pune-Bengaluru highway. The water level in Panchganga river touched 41 ft, according to reports.

Exceptionally heavy rainfall (>40 cm) is very likely over Gujarat, while extremely heavy rainfall is likely over Konkan and Goa on July 24. Wednesday’s heavy rain led to waterlogging in Vadodara, Bharuch and Navsari, with water level of Gira waterfalls in Waghai rising. Severe waterlogging was also seen in Noida’s Sector 62 after heavy rain. Rain also lashed the national capital on Wednesday morning, with a 26-year-old =UPSC aspirant in the national capital getting electrocuted on a waterlogged road near Patel Nagar Metro Station.

West & Central India FORECAST

Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning very likely over the region during next five days.

Orange alert: Very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Chhattisgarh on July 24; Madhya Pradesh on July 24 and 25; Konkan and Goa from July 25-27, Madhya Maharashtra on July 26, 27; Gujarat from July 26-28.

Heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Marathwada on July 24, 25; Vidarbha from July 24-26; Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra from July 24-28.

Northwest India FORECAST

Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning is very likely over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan during the next five days.

Orange alert: Isolated very heavy rainfall is likely over West Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan on July 24.

Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over West Rajasthan on July 24; Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan from July 24–28; Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, southeast Uttar Pradesh on July 24, 25; West Uttar Pradesh from July 24-27.

South Peninsular India FORECAST

Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning is very likely over Kerala and Mahe, Karnataka, Lakshadweep, Telangana and isolated to scattered rainfall over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal during the next five days.

Orange alert: Very heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over South Interior Karnataka on July 24; Coastal Karnataka on July 24, 25.

Heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places over Telangana on July 24, 25; north Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Interior Karnataka from July 24-26; Kerala and Mahe, Coastal Karnataka from July 24–27.

East & Northeast India FORECAST

Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning is very likely over East and Northeast India for the next five days.

Orange alert: Very heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over Odisha during 24th – 26th July.

Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand on July 24; Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on July 24, 27 and 28 and Odisha on July 27, 28.
