BANGALORE: The High Court on Monday lashed out at the state government for not submitting a report on the action plan taken up to improve the conditions of elephants in the forest and strictly directed to submit the report in two days. The division bench comprising Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice Ashok B Hinchigeri, on July 26, while hearing a PIL had given four weeks time to the state government to submit a report on its action plan to develop elephant corridor.Counsel N Ravindranath Kamath had filed the PIL stating the reason for the entry of elephants into human habitats was lack of food in the forest areas. The state government had then submitted that it was preparing an action plan to set up an elephant corridor in the state. When the matter came up for hearing on Monday, the government submitted that it wanted more time to submit the report.“Why do you need more time just to file a report about what you are going to do in developing the action plan to improve the conditions of elephants in the state forests? When the Centre has already released the funds, we can’t give you more time, You have to submit the report within two days”, the court strictly ordered.
