THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Hindu Parliament, a confluence of the Hindu community organisations, will discuss the dispute between Sabarimala Thantri and Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) over the issue of denial of entry to Rahul Easwer, grandson of Thantri Kandararu Maheswararu. Addressing a news conference here on Friday, Rahul Easwar, secretary of Acharya Sabha, which is also under the Hindu parliament, said that the Kollam District conference of the Hindu Parliament and Acharya Sabha, to be held on Saturday, would discuss the matter and a decision would be taken. He also said that the meeting would discuss the Mala Araya community’s demand for returning their right to light the lamp at Ponnambalamedu during the Makaravilakku day.Rahul Easwar said that the TDB president while objecting to his entry had said that the Board could have initiated criminal proceedings against him. “It is an insult to the Thantri, who has the status of the father of the deity”, said Rahul. He said that the High Court in its earlier verdicts had made it clear in an unambiguous manner that Thantri’s word was the last word on spiritual and ritualistic practices in the state.Rahul said that he could never become the Thantri of Sabarimala. Only the patriarchal descendents of the Thanthri has the right to claim the Thanthri’s post. He said that he had gone to Sabarimala to assist his grandfather, Thantri Kandararu Maheswararu, as a ‘parikarmi’. “Any one who is acceptable to the Thanthri can assist him”. Rahul said that he had entered the sanctum sanctorum twenty times in the past to assist the Thantri. However, he said that he was not pressing for his entry, but to accept the Thantri’s right to decide on who should assist. Participating in the news conference, Akhila Thiruvithamcore Mala Araya Maha Sabha president K K Gangadharan said that for centuries, it had been their community’s right to light the lamp on the occasion of the Makaravilakku day. He said that their request had not been given proper attention so far by the TDB.
