New Delhi: An army officer was injured and four militants were killed in the Kashmir valley on Sunday night.
A police spokesman said, a Hizbul Mujahideen commander ? Mohammad Shafi Bhat alias Zahid alias Damoodar ? was killed in a joint operation with the Army at Arwani in Anantnag district.
One AK rifle, two magzines and 25 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the slain commander, who was wanted in several militancy related incidents.
A defence ministry spokesman said troops of 52 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) cordoned off Numbalnar area to nab militants hiding there.
As the troops were sealing the area, militants attacked them with automatic weapons, he said adding the fire was returned and in the fierce clash two militants were killed.
A major and a civilian were injured in the clash, he said adding the injured were shifted to hospital.
In another encounter at Pethawudar, troops of 21 RR gunned down a militant today. One AK rifle and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militant.
The encounter ensued after a search party was attacked by the militants, he said.
