Mumbai: Mumbai Assistant Commissioner of Police Prakash Wani on Saturday denied claims of partying with underworld don Chhota Rajan's men.
Referring to a video shot by mobile allegedly showing him partying with the gangsters owing allegiance to Chhota Rajan, Wani said, "I am being victimised. Someone is trying to tarnish my image. I attended a party at Chembur Gymkhana. But i didn't meet any don there. I can prove that the person in the video is not me."
The video circulated by one of the underworld informer allegedly shows Wani dancing with members of Chhota Rajan gang.
The two minutes 10 seconds long video clip was reportedly recorded on December 31 to celebrate New Year's Eve and the release of some key Chhota Rajan gang members.
DK Rao, a top Chhota Rajan aide, was allegedly the main guest.
The party was organised by another Chhota Rajan aide Paulson Joseph.
Unconfirmed report also suggests that apart from Wani, an Indian Police Service official was also present at the party.
Sources have confirmed that the Mumbai Police Commissioner has already instituted an enquiry into the incident to confirm whether the man dancing with the gang members is Wani or not.
Even Maharashtra Home Minister RR Patil on Friday sought a report from the police department about Wani allegedly attending the gangster's party.
