Srinagar: In heart-wrenching photos that emerged from Kashmir on Wednesday, a three-year-old boy can be seen sitting on his grandfather's body, who was killed in a terror attack on the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Jammu and Kashmir's Sopore.
The child and his grandfather were travelling in a car when the vehicle was hit by bullets in the town, which is in Baramulla district about 50 km from Srinagar.
A video of the visibly shaken boy showed him crying inconsolably when he was picked up by the police. The Kashmir police also tweeted a photo of the child.
"Jammu and Kashmir police rescued a three-year-old boy from getting hit by bullets during the terrorist attack in Sopore," said the post by the Kashmir Zone Police.
"A civilian vehicle which was coming from Sopore to Kupwara was caught in the firing range of terrorists. An old man who was driving the vehicle stopped the car and got down from vehicle to move away for safe spot but got killed in terrorist firing. Later, the boy was rescued by SF who took position nearby," the CRPF said.
A CRPF jawan was also killed in the incident. A checkpost was attacked by the terrorists at around 7:30 am in Sopore where some policemen and the CRPF troops were on duty, officials said, adding that the troops retaliated promptly.
"As the troops were de-bussing from the vehicles to occupy their respective spots of deployment, militants hiding in the attic of a nearby mosque started firing indiscriminately on the troops, resulting in injuries to the CRPF personnel. One of them succumbed to his injuries," the CRPF said in a statement.
While the deceased has been identified as Deep Chand, those injured are Bhoya Rajesh, Deep Chand Verma, Deepak Patil and Nilesh Chawde.
