A rare wildlife encounter has grabbed the headline and become the buzz of the town in North Karnataka’s Yedapadavu. An unusual incident happened after a black panther fell into the well while hunting for food. This led to a rescue operation with the help of local people and forest department personnel.
In Yedapadavu, located in Mangaluru, North Karnataka, a black panther was found trapped in a well. This particular well is located on the premises of Shantala Acharya, a resident of Yedapadavu. When Shantala and her husband went to fetch water from the well, they were in for a shock to see a black panther trapped in it. Promptly, the couple informed the local people and alerted the forest department officials to rescue the wild cat. Upon receiving the information, the forest department team, led by Range Forest Officer Rajesh, along with the help of local people, successfully rescued the black panther from the well using ropes.
Upon receiving the distress call, the forest department team too jumped into action. Under the leadership of Range Forest Officer Rajesh, the team swiftly set out for the scene to rescue the rare black panther. The team, with the resident’s help, planned a rescue operation using ropes to rescue the big cat.
Immediately after the rescue operation, the black panther underwent a thorough health check-up by veterinary doctors and was then safely released back into the forest. Reportedly, in recent years, there have not been any panther sightings in North Karnataka. However, they have been occasionally spotted near the Kabini River region. It is the first such incident which occurred in North Karnataka. After the wild cat was rescued, the family and the community heaved a sigh of relief.
