New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has said he was hopeful of talks on Siachen that began in Pakistan on Friday.
Defence Secretary Shekhar Dutt, who headed a nine-member delegation, held talks with the Pakistani Defence Secretary on demilitarisation of the Siachen glacier.
Dutt held discussions with his Pakistani counterpart Kamran Rasool at the Pakistan Army headquarters in Rawalpindi.
There's been mounting speculation about a breakthrough.
The talks were taking place amid optimism generated by reports that Pakistan has conveyed its willingness to meet the main demand of India that Islamabad should authenticate the troops positions on the glacier before troop withdrawal.
If this is true it meets a key Indian demand.
But no details were forthcoming after the first round of talks on Friday.
Another round of talks is scheduled for Saturday between the two Defence Secretaries.
The Indian delegation also called on Pakistan Defence Minister Rao Sikender Iqbal who said that Islamabad has shown considerable flexibility on the Kashmir issue and India needed to reciprocate the same.
