New Delhi: With Russia annexing Crimea, the fate of over 600 Indian medial students hangs in the balance. These students are studying at State Medical University in Crimea.

Now the Indian medical students don't know who will conduct their exams and whether the degree would now be granted by the university in Ukraine or Russia.

Sources say Indian Embassy officials have met the students in Crimea and assured them of full security. There are over 4000 Indian students in Ukraine.

After the referendum on March 16 in Crimea, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the treaty on March 18 with the Russian-backed leaders of Crimea, pressing ahead with an annexation that Washington and Ukraine's new government say is illegal and unacceptable.
