New Delhi: Indians, it seems, were more stumped by GST than they were by the concept of bitcoins this year.
A compilation of the top trends for 2017, released by Google Trends on Wednesday, showed ‘What is GST’ as the top searched phrase in India under the ‘What is’ category. It was followed by ‘What is bitcoin’.
Google Trends is a public web facility of Google, based on searches that show how often a particular term is entered relative to the total search-volume.
Interestingly, the government’s next promised game changer also confused Indians as they searched ‘How to link Aadhaar and PAN’ most number of times under the ‘How to’ category.
Other keywords in the same category that were among the top searches are ‘How to book Jio phone’ and ‘How to buy Bitcoins’.
While Indians struggled with the GST and bitcoins, movies and cricket continued to rule the India section of the internet.
Indians just couldn’t get the ‘Why did Katappa kill Baahubali’ question out of their heads as Baahubali 2 was the most searched word in 2017, followed the flashy ‘Indian Premiere League’ and ‘live cricket score’.
‘Indian Premiere League’ and ‘Champions Trophy’ were the top two news searches on Google India in 2017. GST was at the fifth spot.
Sunny Leone topped the list of entertainers searched for in India, followed by Bigg Boss participants Arshi Khan and Sapna Chaudhary. Interestingly, all top five entertainers searched happen to be women.
