Mumbai: Jay Hind!, an online comedy show hosted by TV actor Sumit Raghavan, has been excluded from Indian Television Academy (ITA) awards scheduled to be held next month, much to the chagrin of its creators.
"We are a TV channel on the Internet. Nowhere in the rules and regulations was it mentioned that the show needed to be televised over satellite. In that case, programmes on Doordarshan too cannot be eligible for participation because the national broadcaster is not a satellite channel," Abhigyan Jha, creator and director of the show, told PTI.
Jha said he had received a communication from ITA saying that since Jay Hind! was not a televised show, it was ineligible to vie for the awards.
"My show can be watched on television with Internet connection. Online content is the future of global entertainment industry. ITA must encompass TV in every form - it cannot be limited to TV via satellite," he said.
Jha said the show recently crossed the landmark of completing 100 episodes and 50 million hits in just one year.
"Our show garnered rave reviews not only in India but also USA and Uganda. Acknowledgment and support from your organisation would have worked as a great platform to showcase
our accomplishments to our peers," Jha said in a letter to ITA.
