Hurried negotiations between the striking junior doctors and the administration over the mandatory rural service failed to yield results late Tuesday night and the doctors decided to continue their strike till the government yields to their demand and gives it in writing.
Amid this soundbite war that paralysed hospital services in the state, patients sought solace where they could find it.
Principal secretary (health & family welfare) K Rathna Kishore had invited the doctors for talks, but the latter walked away mid-way through it, claiming that officials are only asking them to resume duties and not trying to solve the issue.
Further, the doctors were allegedly miffed by the unparliamentary language used by one of the government official at the meeting.
Speaking to Express, Junior Doctors Association (JUDA) general secretary Dr Naresh said the officials never had any intentions to negotiate. “They simply want us to join the service and say they will make the arrangements... We are ready to rejoin the service, but want the arrangements to be made first,” he said.
“We have been patient, but the officials say they are not empowered to take any decision. If they want a meaningful dialogue, let those with powers to take decision come to talk,” he added.
