KOCHI: Imprisoning the accused in the Kashmir recruitment and other terrorism-related cases being probed by the NIA is turning out to be a big headache for the jail officials in the state. The superintendent of the Ernakulam district jail on Monday submitted before the NIA Court that it will not be safe to put the 16 accused in the Kashmir case, suspected to be hardcore terrorists, under one roof. Another communication from the office of the Viyyur jail Superintendent, too, had pointed out that the accused had acted in a hostile manner there. “At present we have five inmates who are accused in the Kashmir recruitment case. We have only limited facility and security. Most of the wardens are not trained enough to handle prisoners with terror background. The prisoners had created trouble while they were in another jail,” the report said. The report was submitted after eleven accused in the Kashmir recruitment case, lodged at the Ernakulam district jail, created nuisance inside the jail. The superintendent also recommended that the accused be shifted to a central jail.On Sunday, the accused were sent to Ernakulam district jail by the court. And on Sunday night itself they were shifted to Viyyur jail. On Monday, the accused were sent to Thiruvananthapuram Central prison. On Monday, the officials of the Viyyur Central Jail  informed the court that while in jail the accused used to threaten the officials. They also created  unruly scenes by throwing footwear, shouting anti-national and pro-jihad slogans. On Sunday, the accused were transferred to Viyyur  jail around 10 pm. The accused Thadiyantavide Nazeer, Shafas, Abdul Jaleel, P Mujeeb, Ummar Farooq, M H Faizal, Sabir P Buhari, Badaruddin, Sarfaras Navas, Abdul Jabbar and Ibrahim Maulavi - quarrelled with the prison officials and created problems in jail. The accused were furious regarding the police case registered against Firoz, one of the prisoners, who had attacked the officials last month, the report pointed out. They were relentlessly creating unruly situations and abusing the duty officers. The prisoners were reluctant to go inside the cell, despite repeated requests by the officials till 12.30 am. They created noisy atmosphere causing disturbance to other inmates. “Shafaz banged his head against the iron bars of the cell. Some others also attempted to injure themselves by hitting against the cell wall,” said the report. Meanwhile, the accused on Monday said before the court that the jail authorities brutally tortured them in the night. Considering the reports and complaints by the accused, the court directed the police to sent them to Thiruvananthapuram central jail. The court rejected the request of the accused to send them to Bangalore or Coimbatore jails. The court further directed that the accused should not be shifted to another jail without any court direction. The court asked the jail authorities to provide adequate medical aid to the prisoners.
