New Delhi: Jaspal Rana won the gold medal at the XVth Asian Games in Doha despite being not provided with adequate ammunition for practice.
Rana's father Narayan Singh Rana claimed that the National Rifle Association of India had not provided the ace shooter with ammunition for the last three months.
"The National Rifle Association of India has not been providing ammunition to Jaspal for the last three months. I had to borrow the ammunition for his practice at my private academy," Narayan Singh Rana said.
"Jaspal could not attend the national training camp in Bangalore as he did not have the cartridges," he said.
Narayan Singh also said that his son was down with fever yet brought glory for the country by winning the gold and helping the team win silver.
His father also claimed that the Hungarian coach of the Indian shooting team Csaba Gyorik was biased against his son.
Jaspal, too, had accused Gyorik of playing 'politics' because during his training in Hungary in 1997, Gyorik always suffered defeats at his (Rana's) hands.
Rana won the gold in the 25m standard event scoring 574 and was part of the three-member team that won silver in the team event. He had also won the gold in the same event at the Hiroshima Games in 1994.
