BANGALORE: The JD(S) has demanded a CBI probe into the BJP's charges of corruption against the family members of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda as well as Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa. In a memorandum submitted to Governor H R Bhardwaj on Monday, the JD(S) has stated that the state government must refer the allegations made against each other to the CBI. "We have urged the Governor to direct the CM to positively consider our demand," senior JD(S) leader M C Nanaiah addressed reporters at the Raj Bhavan here on Monday.
The JD(S) delegation to Governor, led by Gowda, comprised H D Revanna, Nanaiah, Y S V Datta and Narayanaswamy. The decision to call on the Governor is an attempt on the part of the JD(S) to keep the BJP government on tenterhooks on the issues of corruption and maladministration.

Nanaiah said the party has urged Bhardwaj to direct the government to be transparent and farmerfriendly on the issue of land acquisition for industries. "The concept of land bank is erroneous. Fertile land of the farmers are being acquired forcibly, as the case in Mundargi, Gadag district, for Posco steel plant. The government must be responsive to the sentiments of farmers," he added.

On the report on encroachment of revenue and forest land submitted by the task force headed by V Balasubramaniam, the JD(S) urged the Governor to take up the issue with the Centre as more than one lakh acres of forest

land has been allegedly

encroached.
