Kuala Lumpur: Jeev Milkha Singh played a steady round, mirroring his first round of two-under 69, but still slipped a few places at the halfway stage of the CIMB Asia Pacific Classic here.
The Chandigarh golfer moved to four-under for 36 holes, and was tied 28th in the elite field of 48 in the USD 6.1 million event, jointly sanctioned by the Asian and PGA Tours at the Mines Resort and Golf Club.
The man holding the spotlight on the second day was American Jeff Overton, who after missing out on the event last year, became a last-minute entrant this year.
He shot 67 on the first day and followed it up with a stunning course record nine-under 62, to share the lead with Swede Fredrik Jacobson (65,64) at 13-under 129.
Another Indian golfer SSP Chowrasia, current leader on the Asian Tour Order of Merit, shot an even-par 71, but was tied for 46th with former US Open champion Agnel Cabrera of Argentina.
The 40-year-old Jeev, who is coming off a two-week forced lay-off to a back injury, parred his first 11 holes, before finding back-to-back birdies on the 12th and 13th.
A third birdie on the 16th saw him go three-under for the day, but a ruined second shot on the 18th cost him a stroke and he ended with a bogey for a round of 69.
"I'm quite disappointed. I think I could have easily finished on four-under. The putter let me down. I had a lot of good putts but some were not up to the mark. I had one bogey and that was on the last. I'm hitting it a lot better. I just need to work on the short game," Jeev said.
Talking about his chances of a good finish, Jeev said, "I need a good day tomorrow to get myself in good position and be aggressive on the last day. I'm going to go out there and do the same thing and hopefully my putts drop to put a good number on the board. I'm going straight to the practice green after lunch."
