JEYPORE: The police have tightened security of Jeypore MLA Rabi Narayan Nanda following media reports about alleged threat to his life. The MLA reportedly had received phone calls demanding Rs 5 lakh. The police have begun an inquiry to ascertain the identity of the callers.The reports surfacing a day before ZP president polls, however, have raised eyebrows. The MLA has a crucial role in the election of the BJD candidate in the district. Though no formal complaint has been filed by the MLA, the police are leaving nothing to chance. Cops in plainclothes have been deployed at his residence and two SPOs for Nanda’s personal security. Only a handful of visitors were allowed to meet the MLA at his residence on Monday. This is for the second time in the last two years that the MLA has received threat calls.Jeypore SDPO U R Dash said the police were investigating.
