J-K doctors end 23-day strike, resume work
The strike had crippled the health services across the state.

Srinagar: Junior doctors in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday resumed work after reaching an agreement with the government, much to the relief of patients after the 23-day strike crippled health services across the state.

The junior doctors who went on an indefinite strike in support of their demands including pay revision, reported to their duties this morning as per the agreement reached with the government last evening, according to which all pending issues will be resolved by November 16, officials said.

Although a separatist-sponsored general strike against the visit of the Prime minister Manmohan Singh crippled life in Kashmir valley, hundreds of patients were seen returning to different hospitals for treatment.

"We accepted to call off the strike in the larger interests of people especially patients," executive member of Doctors Joint Action Committee (DJAC) Asif said.

He said the government informed them that the action taken against 26 striking doctors will also be revoked.
