Kupwara: A spate of attacks against telecom employees and those who have rented out space for installation of mobile towers in their fields has thrown the communication system in Jammu and Kashmir into disarray. There was another grenade attack on a mobile tower in the Handwara area of the Kupwara district on Saturday.
No one has been injured but the tower has suffered significant damage.
On May 25, guerrillas killed a man and injured two others in Sopore town in an attack on a BSNL SIM card selling shop. On May 26, another person was killed in Dooru village on the outskirts of Sopore.
Following the attacks, telecom employees have stopped maintaining the mobile towers and those having franchise of telecom companies started distancing themselves from such services.
