Vashu Bhagnani's Kal Kissne Dekha is one film that is being affected most by the ongoing producers-multiplex battle. It's been over two months since the film's promos were first aired - but since then the movie has seen several changes in its release date.
Last heard, the film was expected to hit the screens on May 29. But according to reports the film has been postponed further.
When we contacted producer Vashu Bhganani, he said, "I wanted to release the film this Friday at single screens and stand alone multiplexes. But the producers association has assured me that the strike should end by the end of this week".
Bhagnani said both parties had agreed upon nine out of 10 issues and the matter should be solved in the next few days. "Except for an issue over release strategy we have reached a consensus on other points." Bhagnani hopes to release the film June second week.
The producers and multiplex owners have been locked in a long battle over revenue sharing of new films. And barring 99, no significant Hindi film has released at multiplexes in the last few weeks.
Bhagnani said, "I can now give my film a wide spread release across all cinemas. As for the publicity, I still have a couple of songs to premiere which I will do with the revised date".
But given that Kal Kissne Dekha is his son's debut film, isn't Bhagnani worried about the effect of these date changes on the film's fate? Bhagnani said, "Whenever Kal Kissne Dekha opens I will have an open four weeks. That's because other producers will have to start their promotion from scratch".
As for debutant Jackky Bhagnani, the producer-farther said, "He is also calm about it. We have done our best. Earlier my producer and actor friends had suggested me to release Kal Kissne Dekha in single screens. But now that the matter is close to being resolved, I might as well wait a little more".
