College students joined the protest against the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu in Mandya on Friday.
Students and staff of Mandavya Educational institutions took out a march in the city shouting slogans against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitaa.
The rain in Kodagu has weakened and chances of KRS brimming is remote. The farmers in the region are finding it difficult with lack of water for agricultural activities and livestock. In such a situation, the state government ‘secretly’ releasing water is not acceptable, they said.
The state government should protect the standing crops of the farmers. In the September 19 meeting of Cauvery River Authority to be chaired by the Prime Minister, Karnataka should not agree at any cost to release water.
Meanwhile, the protest at Sir M Visveswaraya statue led by former MP G Madegowda continued on Friday. In Chamarajanagar, Karnataka Sena Pade staged a protest against release of water. Also, Mysore City Congress Committee general secretary H A Venkatesh has urged to constitute a watchdog authority to monitor the outflow and water level in KRS, Kabini, Harangi and Hemavathi reservoirs as all governments have completely failed to solve the Cauvery water sharing problem.
‘No Water to TN’
Karunadu Rakshana Vedike activists staged an agitation here on Friday urging the state government not to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.
When farmers are reeling under crisis due to severe drought, releasing water to a neighbouring state is unjustifiable, they said.
Forum threatens state-wide bandh
Bangalore: Terming the Cauvery issue as a political agenda, president of Kannada Sene, K R Kumar along with other leaders has threatened to hold a state wide bandh.
Vatal Paksha, Kannada Sene and Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh Samiti members who held a press meet here on Friday said that the members who have gone to the Centre to discuss the matter are merely politicising the issue.
“Kannada groups and farmer associations will conduct a state wide bandh as we are not pleased with the noncommittal behaviour of leaders,” said Kumar
