BANGALORE:  Small unauthorised cloth dyeing units, which are being operated by families at Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border, near Anekal, Sarjapur and places in Chamarajnagar, seem to be a major concern for Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB). In the past week, the KSPCB has issued closure orders to over 15 such small dyeing units which are functional in homes around Anekal and Sarjapur. Member secretary of KSPCB S M Puttabudhi said, “We were receiving complaints from that water bodies around these areas were getting polluted, which were posing hazard to aquatic life.”All three KSPCB regional officers at South Bangalore, East Bangalore and Chamarajanagar have been informed and they  regular check-up is being conducted in and around these areas. He said, “The problem the board faces is that most of these units are small, running inside houses, making it difficult for officers to nab them. Still we are trying our best.”Meanwhile, deputy commissioners of border regions have also been alerted, he stated. When asked as to what would be their next step be after they issue closure orders, Puttabudhi said, “We would request the KPTCL to disconnect power supply to such units. Else, we would book cases against them, which will be our last resort.”
