HYDERABAD: Emphasising on the inconvenience faced by commuters due to the ongoing metro rail works, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has asked the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) authorities to reduce the cycle time of pillar construction further and minimise the area of blockades on city roads. The chief minister, who reviewed the progress of metro rail project with ministers and officials at a high level meeting at Secretariat Tuesday, asked the L&T and Hyderabad Metro Rail Project (L&TMRHL) to complete the works as per schedule and see that there are no traffic bottlenecks in the city while the works are in progress.He released a DVD on city metro rail project, available in both English and Telugu, which has the details of the project including rail routes, station designs and facilities to be available at the stations. The DVD also have many illustrations including the new look the city would wear after the metro rail is in place, the sky-walks and pedestrian facilities the metro rail stations would have. HMR managing director NVS Reddy made a detailed presentation on the progress of various project facilitation works. He also explained the approval procedures of designs by international consultants and independent engineers to the chief minister. To ensure the quality of works, a panel of nine experts was appointed by the HMR, apart from the quality checks by independent engineers, he said. The metro trains would have connectivity with the existing rail terminals, MMTS stations and bus depots. Chief secretary Pankaj Dwivedi said a team of Special Task Force headed by him was resolving the contentious issues and regularly monitoring the progress of the project.
