The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) is speeding up measures to procure the necessary number of Time of Day (ToD) meters ahead of launching ToD billing for domestic consumers from January onwards.
The KSEB has issued orders for providing selected domestic and industrial consumers with the new meters by December.
In an order dated September 26, the KSEB has urged its officials to speed up the procurement of 50,000 new Time of Day meters. Existing ToD meters are to be re-programmed at the earliest to display zone-wise energy and demand. From January 1, 2013, domestic consumers using more than 500 units a month are to be billed at a higher rate for peak-hour consumption. Under it, these consumers are to be billed at `6.50 per unit between 6 am and 6 pm, `7.80 per unit between 6 pm and 10 pm and `5.85 per unit between 10 pm and 6 am.
While revising the tariff in July, the State Electricity Regulatory Commission had ordered that LT domestic consumers using more than 500 units a month and LT industrial consumers with connected load of 20 kW and above should be shifted to ToD billing. In all, 22,879 domestic consumers and 21,953 LT industrial consumers will come under the new billing from January 1.
