NAGAPATTINAM: Kuruvai cultivation is expected to be taken up in 40,000 hectares in the district this year, said Collector T Munusamy.
In a release, the Collector has stated that normally, kuruvai would be raised in 35,000 ha every year. This year, as water has been released from Mettur early, cultivation activities would be undertaken in additional 5000 ha. So far, crops have been raised in about 8,735 ha in the district. Nearly 619 tonne of seeds have been distributed to the farmers through agriculture department, cooperative societies and private dealers.
