New Delhi: We should look for the best and the most happening d***s in town!
Imagine a college extempore event where an auditorium packed with pretty girls and evil backbenchers are waiting eagerly to cat call you off the stage if you fail to evoke spontaneous laughter. One failed joke or a slip of tongue and you are maggot-infected meat to the most popular girls in your class. Your palms start to sweat as you open the folded chit that has your topic of discussion and subsequently, your fate written. 'Should sex education be a part of middle school curriculum?'
Your are desperate to recall, within a time frame of the stipulated two minutes, the raunchiest jokes you have swapped in the men's room with your friends. You have to make them palatable and dress them in opinion to make your point in front of a 1000 people. The clock is ticking.
For most of the stipulated two minutes of the trailer of their upcoming film 'Kya Super Kool Hai Hum', actors Riteish Deshmukh and Tusshar Kapoor are sweating it out in front of a million people trying to think up extempore jokes and rib each other mercilessly as if their lives depended on it. Of course you have heard the jokes before, as you have seen a million sit-coms and read literature inspired by the masters of humour.
For a generation that has grown up on the hardcore melodrama of 'Kabhie Khushi Kabhi Gham', the opening sequence of the trailer with juxtaposed shots from KSKHH and KKKG are easily recognisable. The now familiar theme song from the Karan Johar glycerine flick plays in the background. A stunned and disapproving Jaya Bachchan looks on as Tusshar pours a bottle of bottle down the front of his pant. I thought that was pretty funny. Even if the tired 'hard d****s' joke wasn't.
"Mujhe bade achhe lagte hai," says a female lead. "Mujhe bhi," quips another. Ram Kapoor will not be pleased. Oh no, he won't. He must still be smarting from the online sarcasm targeting his television sex with Sakshi Tanwar in the serial Bade Achhe Lagte Hai.
Directed by Sachin Yardi and produced by Ekta Kapoor, 'Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum' has Tusshar, Sarah Jane Dias, Reteish and Neha Sharma in a madcap plot that takes off from where the first film Kya Kool Hai Hum ended.
The jokes will make you smile, unless you are the President of the Cynics Association. They will make you want to look up Yardi's number from the Yellow Pages and send him a letter bomb. Their sheer crassness will make you cringe. But the jokes will take you back to white washed walls of college washrooms with crude messages written on them.
Tusshar humping a sex toy or modelling for a fairness product that has a punch line laden with innuendo, KSKHH has undoubtedly teased the curiosity of a 'back-to-college' target audience. The jokes aren't original and the actors playing them out have done the same gags in film after film. But after a series of heavy duty films high on social message - 'Kahaani', 'Paan Singh Tomar', 'Shanghai', 'Gangs of Wasseypur' - you can surely allow yourself a guffaw? Go on, I know you want to.
