PURI: Revenue Secretary RK Sharma finds himself in a legal tangle barely hours after having denied any wrong-doing in the Puri land dealings. A legal notice has been slapped on Sharma by the former PCC general secretary and lawyer Priyadarshan Patnaik through his lawyer Kali Prasad Ray of the Puri Bar Association. Patnaik alleged that Sharma was trying to shield the land grabbers without conducting any inquiry.Patnaik alleged that Sharma’s statement during a press meet on Tuesday over the Swargadwar land scam was intended at protecting the unscrupulous land grabbers and would encourage them further.Patnaik said that while the media, both print and electronic, have been highlighting the details of the burning issue why did the Secretary try to suppress the facts. The notice claimed that the Revenue Secretary instead of waiting for the findings of the Vigilance Department has given a clean chit to the land grabbers through his statement. Patnaik alleged that Sharma without conducting any inquiry into the matter has provided false and baseless information to the media and public. The facts were twisted to protect land grabbers and builders, he added. The Secretary’s statements were misleading and illegal in the eye of the law and would influence the probe while encouraging land grabbers, Patnaik stated. He urged Sharma to apologise to the public and reveal the facts after a thorough probe into the land scam within seven days of receipt of the notice. Failing to do would invite a criminal case against the Secretary, the notice said.
