Another landslide has occurred between Edakumeri and Kadavagaralli near Shiradi Ghat, causing the closure of train services between Bengaluru and Mangaluru for a week. Fourteen trains have been cancelled, and repair work is being carried out by 700 workers. The Railway Department has announced that train services on this route will be suspended until August 4.
The landslide near Thanogal, close to the Edakumeri railway station between Mangalore and Bangalore, has disrupted a total of 14 train services until August 4. This disruption affects train services to Kerala, Murudeshwar, and Mangalore.
The cancellation of train services has led to a spike in flight ticket prices between Bangalore and Mangalore, with fares jumping from the usual Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 to Rs 10,000.
Passengers should note that the following trains are cancelled:
– Train No. 16512 Kannur – Bangalore Express (cancelled from July 30 to August 3)
– Train No. 07378 Mangalore Central – Vijayapura Special Express (cancelled from July 30 to August 4)
– Train No. 07377 Vijayapura – Mangalore Central Express (cancelled from July 30 to August 4)
– Train No. 16585 Sir M. Visveswaraiah Terminal Bangalore – Murdeshwar Express (cancelled from July 29 to August 3)
– Train No. 16586 Murdeshwar – Sir M. Visveswaraiah Terminal Bangalore Express (cancelled from July 29 to August 3)
– Train No. 16595 Bangalore – Karwar Panchganga Express (cancelled from July 30 to August 4)
– Train No. 16596 Karwar – Bangalore Panchganga Express (cancelled from July 30 to August 4)
Besides, a major landslide occurred on National Highway 75 in the Shiradi Ghat Yattinahalla-Sakaleshpura sector on Saturday, authorities said. As a result, vehicles travelling on the highway towards Mangaluru and Bengaluru were stuck on either side of the landslide, they said.
According to authorities, highway department staff were busy clearing the mud blocking the road using earthmoving machines. The roads will be cleared by late Saturday evening or Sunday morning.
