L-G's office denies DCW chief Swati Maliwal claim of asking her not to report to work on Thursday
Earlier in the day, the Delhi L-G has written to the Kejriwal government, asking why he was not consulted before Maliwal's appointment as the new DCW chief.

Ne Delhi: With no end to war of words between the Aam Aadmi Party and Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Swati Maliwal on Wednesday said that Jung called her and asked her not to report to work on Thursday. The Lt Governor's office has denied making any such call to Maliwal.

"I got a call from the DCW office asking me not to report to work on Thursday. Lt Governor's office had told DCW office to pass on the message to me. It's really sad that in a situation like this when Delhi is really going through a very severe law and order situation and its becoming all the more dangerous for women, this kind of a decision has come out."

Earlier in the day, the Delhi L-G has written to the Arvind Kejriwal government, asking why he was not consulted before Maliwal's appointment as the new DCW chief.

The Aam Aadmi Party government had appointed key Kejriwal aide Swati Maliwal as the new chief of the DCW, replacing Barkha Singh.

The appointment of Maliwal as DCW chief was questioned by the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress as well. AAP government had, however, refuted charges of nepotism, claiming that Maliwal had a long record of "activism" in different spheres.

Swati Maliwal, who has been an RTI activists, is the wife of AAP leader Naveen Jaihind.

After assuming charge as the DCW chief on Monday, Maliwal had said that her top priority would be to ensure safety of women.
