TUMKUR: Noted theatre artiste, writer and Rangayana Director Lingadevaru Halemane was buried in Halugona, his birth place near Chikkanayakanahalli on Thursday.
Halemane (62) died of massive cardiac arrest in Mysore on Wednesday. His body was brought to the village on Wednesday night and kept for public viewing on Thursday till 11.30 am.After performing rituals as per the Veerashaiva tradition, the body was buried in his farm at 2 pm. Halemane is survived by his mother Boramma, wife Nanda, daughters Malavika and Bhumika, brothers Chidanandamurthy and Nataraj.

Deputy Commissioner C Somashekara paid his respects to the versatile theatre artiste on behalf of the government. Assistant Commissioner YS Patil, tahsildar Kantharaju and taluk officials were present.

Members of theatre groups from Mysore and Shimoga also paid their last respects to Halemane. Thousands of people, including his fans from across the state, gathered at the place. A holiday was declared for the schools in the village in his honour.
