KANCHEEPURAM: Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth more than Rs 1.25 lakh was seized on East Coast Road in Chunambedu police station limits on Thursday. Two people have been arrested.Ramalingam (40), and Parthiban (30) were trying to smuggle liquor from Puducherry to Chennai, which included beer, brandy and whisky.A police patrol headed by inspectors Arockia Raj and Manoharan intercepted and arrested them.The consignment included brands such as Kingfisher beer, Bacardia Lemon Brandy, Draculus Rum, Mansion House, Courier Napoleon and 35 litres of local country brew.A Tata Sumo, which was used to transport the liquor was seized.Police pegged the value of the consignment at Rs 5.25 lakh.Based on the statements of the two men, a third person Maran (43) was also arrested and Rs 4 lakh worth of IMFL was seized from a house in Ikattuthangal. Police in Ashok Nagar are investigating.Police said, Maran revealed that the liquor found at his place was meant for distribution in Chennai.Police suspect the arrests could lead to an illegal liquor manufacturing and marketing racket based in Chennai.
