New Delhi: The CPI-M has called for a 48 hour bandh starting today, Maharshtra Legislature's Winter session commences and PM’s visit Singapore and Uganda. Here is what else is making news today.
CPI-M protest
The CPI-M has called for a 48 hour bandh starting today in Bihar, West Bengal and Jharkhand, to protest against the violence in Nandigram. Security will be beefed up at important public places, including railway stations and bus depots.
All police stations across Bihar have also been put on maximum alert.
Maharashtra Legislature's Winter session
The Maharshtra Legislature's Winter session commences today. Farmers' suicides, crop loans and the distribution of red wheat are likely to dominate the session. Opposition parties Shiv Sena and BJP are expected to take up the issues in a big way.
In a display of strength the Shiv Sena has already taken out a march from Amravati to Nagpur demanding complete waiver of crop loans for small and medium farmers.
.Congress leader launches Mega TV
After the Sun Network and Jaya TV, another party-backed channel is launching in Chennai. Mega TV, promoted by senior Congress leader Thangabalu goes on air today. This is the first time the congress is making a foray into the Tamil television media.
Congress-backed Malayalam channel Jai Hind TV is already on air. Mega TV's launch was endorsed by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi at the AICC conference in New Delhi.
PM’s visit
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to visit Singapore and Uganda from November 19-25.
