BANGALORE: There was mixed reaction from autodrivers on Friday as they protested government’s plan to add 40,000 more autos in the city. But some other auto drivers didn’t want to join the strike. Speaking to City Express, Manjunath, president, Adarsha Auto and Taxi Drivers’ Union said, “We have about 16,000 autorickshaws registered under our union and all of them are plying today. We welcome the governments’ decision to grant 40,000 new permits as this leads to an increase in self-employment.” Though autos were running in the city, most of the meters were not on. Said one of the auto drivers on the condition of anonymity, “We are not going to the main city area. We are scared of the autorickshaw drivers who decided to strike. What if they damage our autos? We are running near MG Road, Shantinagar, Double Road and Lalbagh. So we are charging a little more than normal fare.”
