THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has said that the Kerala Government will take immediate steps to collect the details of Malayalis in Saudi jails and will take action to get them released.Speaking at a face-to-face programme on the second day of the Global NRK Meet 2011 here on Friday, he assured that a higher official of the Norka would be sent to the Gulf countries to study the plight of Non-Resident Keralites (NRKs) there.The official will collect the details of those who are not getting proper treatment, jailed for not having proper documents and persons who are cheated by the agents, he said.Legal support will be provided to get the Malayalees released, he said.NRK representatives had told the Chief Minister that many innocent Keralites who landed in Saudi jails were unable to get out the jails as they could not produce documents necessary for their release.Norka officials will collect the documents needed for the release of Malayalis and hand them over to NRK organisations which have promised to take follow-up action.Norka officials will visit Saudi Arabia in January.When the Right to Service Act comes into effect the problems faced by the NRKs could be solved, he said.Chandy also said that steps would be taken to bring to the notice of the Union Government the need to appoint Malayali officials at Indian Embassies.The State Government is considering establishment of an NRI Bank and an NRI University, Chandy said.He also assured that the suggestions put forward by the NRKs would be seriously considered.The government will consider opening an Indian Consulate at Damam in Saudi Arabia, he said.Norka Affairs Minister K C Joseph, KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala, Planning Board member G Vijayaraghavan, Norka-Roots vice-chairman M A Yusufali and Norka-Roots director C K Menon participated.
