KALADY: A migrant labourer from West Bengal killed a local sand labourer near Kalady, after drowning him in Periyar, near Aarattukadavu, on Sunday morning. The body of the deceased, Jose, 60, of Kozhikadan Chengal, was taken to the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital mortuary, where postmortem examination was conducted. Jose is survived by wife Gracy and daughters Sonia and Soja. Local people nabbed the accused Rafath Sheik, 42, who reportedly was under the influence of drugs, and handed him over to the police. “The cause of action is unknown,” the police said. The initial attempt of the police to collect the detailsof the accused and the cause of the murder was failed when the accused threatened the interpreter. According to local witnesses, Rafath was seen wandering near the bathing ghat during the last couple of days in an inebriated state. Meanwhile, agitated local residents chased a group of migrant labourers in Chengal, where thousands of outstation labourers stay.
