Man drowns in Annakulam pond

A 35-year-old person drowned in the Annakulam pond near Eroor on Sunday. According to the police, he was taking a bath when the incident occurred.

The deceased has been identified as Ramakrishnan, of Kalarikkal house, a resident of Pullepady. Ramakrishnan, who was working as a daily-wage painter, had gone to the pond with his friend Lawrence, a resident of Ellamkulam. Both of them had been working at Eroor for the past two weeks, according to the police.

Police said that Ramakrishnan disappeared while he was bathing in the middle of the big pond. On realising that Ramakrishan was not responding to his frantic calls, Lawrence informed the nearby residents and the Fire Force.

After six hours of searching by the officials and the local people, Ramakrishnan’s body was recovred from the pond around 4.30 pm. The body is being preserved at the Tripunithura Taluk Hospital for post-mortem. It will be handed over to the family on Monday. Officials of the Fire and Rescue Department was led by Assistant Station officer Sabu Joseph.  B Ragunathan Nair,  R Sasikumar, Manoharan, K H Jatheesh Kumar, V K Nishanth, Sudheer Lal, Suresh Kumar, K B Jayakumar, K V Baby and T R Anil Kumar were part of the team.
