The crowd gathered at the collectorate was left stunned for few moments as an elderly man sought permission for hoisting national flag on his chest during the coming Independence Day.
The incident took place as Additional Collector Basant Kurre was conducting a public hearing on Tuesday. The unusual demand came from an aged person Bheem Pawar, hailing from Gandhi Nagar area of the city. In his complaint, Pawar alleged that the road in his area has gone completely inaccessible due to the ongoing digging in the area. This has been causing great inconvenience to the public.
Besides, Pawar alleged that the flag hoisting spot has been encroached upon by locals. He demanded removal of encroachments and stringent action against the encroachers.
“Either the district administration should get this flag hoisting spot cleared from encroachments or they should allow me to hoist the tricolour on my chest,” said the perturbed elderly man. The ADM Basant Kurre on this instructed the SDM Bairagarh for taking appropriate action.
Pawar talking to News18.com on Wednesday said that the locals have been hoisting the flag at this spot for past 30 years but the spot is not available this time, so he was compelled to complain to the district administration to free the spot ahead of Independence Day next month.
