ALUVA: Elaborate arrangements have been made at the Sivaratri Manappuram, for the Karkitaka Vavu ceremonies on Saturday. The arrangement are done by the Tranvancore Devaswom Board(TDB) and other government agencies.Thousands of devotees from different parts of the state are expected to reach here to offer ‘bali tharpanam’ for their ancestors. Special poojas will begin at the temple at 3.30 a.m. Thantri Chennas Manackal Divakaran Namboodiripad will be the main poojari. The ‘bali tharpanam’ will begin at the ‘balitharas’ at 4.00 a.m.The TDB has allotted more than hundred sites to set up ‘balitharas’ for the priests to assist the devotees offering ‘tharpanam’. TDB volunteers will be there to help the devotees during the ceremony.“District Collector  P I Sheik Pareeth has instructed the Aluva Tahsildar to ensure the presence of naval divers to prevent drowning,” said TDB Administrative Officer S Reghunathan Nair. TDB top officials including President Rajagopalan Nair, Board Members and Devaswom Commissioner Vasu are expected to visit and supervise the arrangements. Deputy Devaswom Commissioner (Vaikom) G Anilkumar, Asst. Commissioner K Krishnan and Administrative Officer S Reghunathan Nair are monitoring the arrangements.Police will make elaborate arrangements to ensure the safety and maintain law and order. Additional police force would be deployed in the area. The service of mufti police and women police officers would be ensured. Vehicular traffic to the Manappuram will be restricted. Fire Force and medical staff would be alerted to meet any eventualities. The KSRTC will ensure the operation of all the schedule without break on the ‘Karkitaka Vavu’ day. KSRTC operates 88 schedules from Aluva depot daily.
