THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition deputy leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said that for Finance Minister K M Mani, Mar Powathil is the chief minister. Inaugurating the southern leg of SFI’s state vehicle jatha organised against commercialisation of education and communalism here on Monday, Kodiyeri said that Mani would not obey Chief Minister Oommen Chandy but only Joseph Mar Powathil. Kodiyeri said that in the last two-and-half-months it has become clear that Inter-Church Council was deciding the government’s policy. The government is controlled by bishop houses, PanakkadThangal and the offices of some caste organisations. Appointments of officials like District Collectors, SPs and DySPs are being made after the approvalof these organisations. Caste and communal organisations are controlling education, he said. To faciliate achievement of their goals, these organisations have been promoting apolitical approach in campuses. After the UDF Government came to power, education sector had been entrusted with those promoting commercialisation. Kodiyeri inaugurated the jatha by handing over the flag to SFI state president K V Sumesh. CPM district secretary Kadakampally Surendran, DYFI district secretary S P Deepak, SFI leaders A A Rahim, Ben Darwin and Balamurali attended. Later, speaking to mediapersons, he said the factionalism in the Congress was behind the leaking out of the Vigilance report on Ramesh Chennithala in connection with the Himalaya Chit Fund case. The LDF Government had no reason to hide the report. If the Government wanted it could have ordered a re-investigation, he said. It was the pro-Chennithala faction that was propagating that he had received a clean chit. It was part of the efforts to claim chief ministership for Ramesh, Kodiyeri said.
