Ranchi: At least four Maoists of the Kundan Pahan group, suspected to be involved in the beheading of Jharkhand Police Inspector Francis Induwar, have been injured in an encounter and efforts are being made by security forces to trace them.
"As per our information, four to five Maoists of the Kundan Pahan group were hit by bullets and search operations are continuing to trace them," Senior Superintendent of Police Praveen Kumar told on Monday.
Earlier, the SSP had said that Kundan, the leader of the group, might have been among the Maoists who were injured in Sunday's encounter near Jonha, about 35 km from Ranchi.
The body of a Maoist has already been recovered, while the fleeing ultras were suspected to have carried with them their injured associates, police said.
They said the Pahan group was trying to cross over from Jharkhand to West Bengal when they were spotted, leading to the encounter.
As many as four companies of para-military and police forces were scouring through the forests of Ranchi and Khunti districts to trace the Maoists who have been injured, Kumar said.
Police arrested three ultras and seized a light machine gun, two rifles, cartridges, cell phones, three vehicles, a bike and Naxal literature after the encounter, he said.
