The Red Bull driver has decided to join Porsche's new sportscar programme in 2014.

Red Bull driver Mark Webber will leave Formula One at the end of the current season and will join Porsche's new sportscar programme, BBC reported on Thursday. Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen is favourite to become Sebastian Vettel's new team-mate as he has been strongly linked with a move to Red Bull.

"Porsche has written racing history as a manufacturer and stands for outstanding performance and technology at the highest level. I'm very much looking forward to this new challenge after my time in Formula 1. I can hardly wait to pilot one of the fastest sports cars in the world," said Webber.

Webber has won nine grand prix in his 12 years with F1. He has finished on the podium 36 times, grabbed 11 pole positions, finished third in the World Championship twice and raced 15 fastest laps. The 36-year-old Australian raced for Minardi, Jaguar and Williams before moving to Red Bull.

Of late at Red Bull, his relationship with team-mate Vettel got strained, especially since the German ignored team orders to allow Webber win the Malaysian Grand Prix. While Vettel initially apologised for his action, he later admitted he would do the same thing again.

Webber was furious at Vettel's response and didn't share cordial relations with the German ever since, which could have prompted his departure.
