KOCHI: Olympian Mercy Kuttan has been allotted 10 cents of land for residential purposes in Thrikkakara North village. "The government has passed an order allotting 10 cents to Mercy Kuttan in Edapally region under the Thrikkakara North Village," District Collector P I Sheikh Pareeth told Express on Thursday. "The process to register the land in Mercy's name will be completed soon," he said.
Last week, the government had cancelled an earlier order allotting land at Kundanoor in Marad municipality citing disputes in the Kerala High Court regarding ownership of the land. Meanwhile, Mercy Kuttan expressed her gratitude to the government for clearing the issue quickly. "I am thankful to the government for allotting land as per my request. I had visited the land at Edapally and I am happy with it," Mercy said.Mercy has also placed a request to the government to provide seven to eight acres of land for the Mercy Kuttan Athletics Academy which she had launched with her late athlete husband M R Murali Kuttan two years ago.
