THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Salgaocar, the mighty Goan club arrived in the city on Thursday to take on Chirag United in its I league away- match which is scheduled for December 3. Donned in Maya blue denims and Air force blue tshirts, the team was accorded a warm welcome at the airport by football fans. The team had alighted from Goa after their tie with arch rivals Churchill Brothers the other day. The team looked weary after the arduous flight journey which was aggravated by a 40-minute delay. After a two-hour lull, the team went for a warm-up session at the University Stadium. Taking into account, the long flight journey from Goa to Mumbai and then to Thiruvananthapuram which had took its toll on the players, the evening outing of the team was minimised to a warm up session nourished with a few minutes of practice game. According to the manager of the team, players were in goodphysical condition and were awaiting for the decisive day to down Chirag United. Chirag United, as usual, had conducted their training at LNCPE ground. Captain Ajayan told ‘Express’ that their clash with Salgaocar would be worth watching as the team had molded into a formidable side with the last outing against Churchill Brothers in Goa. Chirag had tied the match 1-1 to rekindle its hope of finishing the season in a respectful manner. The team management is hoping for nothing less than a win as Nigerian striker David Sunday has joined them. His presence in the final lineup has been confirmed. But the absence of Charles Dzisah, who received a red card in the last match, will hurt the balance of the team, as the its defence relies on the Ghan a player. Salgaocar will have Nigerian Chidi Edeh up front and Japanese playmaker Ryuji Sueoka as their trump card. The match will kick start at 3.30 pm on Saturday. Salgaocar is stuck at eighth spot in the tally while Chirag has slipped down one step down to finish twelfth.
