Shri Pillappa College of Engineering (SPCE) started this year with the approval of AICTE, VTU Belgaum, and Government of Karnataka with the commitment to give the best education in the field of Engineering, Research and Management. It is built on 18-acres of naturally air-conditioned sprawling green campus situated in an ideal location between MS Palya and Hesarugatta Raod, Bangalore. Dr. H B Phani Raju, Principal, SPCE speaks to City Express about the unique features of SPCE.
What according to you are the distinct features of SPCE?
Highly qualified and experienced professors, strong attitude of management to build a world class institution, architecturally designed world class infrastructure, state-of-the-art laboratories, academic independency to Principal and Professors, scholarship for meritorious students, bridge course in Mathematics and English communication, discipline as primary concern, mentor system to govern individual students, management support for providing AICTE pay scales for all the staff...all these makes us distinct from any other institutions.
What are the main courses offered currently?
We offer BE Program in four courses namely Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Information Science Engineering, and Computer Science and Engineering. They have been started from this academic year 2012-13.
What are the facilities offered by the college?
We have well-equipped state-of-the-art laboratories, workshops, world class architecturally designed campus, spacious library with abundant titles, separate digital library with national and international journals of IEEE, JGATE, ASTM etc. We have a well stocked canteen with an ambience facing lawn.
Separate Boys and Girls hostel facility with hygienic food at ideal location, transportation facility from different areas of Bangalore, education Loan facility from Scheduled Banks, scholarship for the meritorious students, Wi-Fi Campus with 24/7 free internet browsing for students etc. are some other facilities.
What is the admission procedure?
50 per cent of the students are admitted through CET, while 30 per cent (Code: E 218) of students are through COMEDK (E 158). They are admitted according to the rules governed by Government of Karnataka and 20 per cent of Management quota is admitted by the Principal based on the personal interview and the college entrance test.
What are your immediate plans in terms of courses and expansion?
We are looking at additional B.E courses in Civil and Architectural engineering, Post-Graduation and Research areas in Modern Energy Generation Techniques, Post Graduate Management courses with Special concentration for harnessing the talents of young Indian.
What is your objective?
The main objective is to take the institution to the top position within one decade. I am confident that it can be achieved.
With my 30 years of wide experience in teaching, admission co-ordination, students counselling, parents counselling and with the dedicated efforts of our qualified chairman P Naveen Kumar, we are sure we will achieve this objective.
How diverse has your experience been?
I completed my BE from R V College of Engineering, ME from UVCE Bangalore University and Ph.D from VTU in Electrical and Electronics Engineering field. Earlier to the present assignment, I was serving at the prestigious BMS College of Engineering for 26 years. In addition to Academic and Research experience, I have served as Hon. Secretary and Hon.
Jt. Secretary for 4 years and conducted more than 50 technical seminars and lectures. I have served as Hon. secretary for Institution of Engineering, Karnataka State Centre.
I have also presented a dozen National and International Research and journal papers including IEEE, JRI CPRI etc. At present I am guiding two Ph.D candidates at VTU. I was also involved with educational and career guidance for engineering students and their parents.
