Mumbai Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani, who conducted night inspection in the western suburban areas over the weekend, has instructed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials that the work of levelling all road junctions within the BMC’s jurisdiction with a uniform asphalt layer should be completed by May 31, 2024. Additionally, citizens should not face any difficulty related to potholes. The ongoing cement concretisation of roads must be completed by the same deadline, he has said. He further instructed officials that no new road excavations should be initiated henceforth within the BMC jurisdiction. Bhushan Gagrani visited and inspected the ongoing works of cement concretisation in various locations in the western suburbs.
As part of an ambitious initiative aimed at achieving pothole-free roads in Mumbai, the first phase of cement concretisation covering a total length of 400 kilometre is currently in progress within the BMC’s jurisdiction. Bhushan Gagrani inspected the ongoing cement concretisation work during the night at Khar, Andheri, Goregaon, and other locations in the western suburbs. During this night visit, the ongoing dry lean concrete work at 16th Road in Khar (West) was inspected. Gagrani directed that the work should ensure swift discharge of stormwater drainage from the said channel. Furthermore, he instructed that at junctions where concrete and asphalt roads meet, levelling must be matched to ensure that motorists do not feel discomfort due to an uneven road surface.
To make traffic movement easier, Gagrani instructed civic body officials that barricades obstructing traffic, especially during the rainy season, should be removed wherever feasible, particularly at road cement concretisation sites. He said that no new road works should commence after May 31, 2024. Additionally, measures should be implemented to minimise inconvenience to citizens during ongoing road works and completion of the works should be prioritised to prevent unwanted incidents resulting from dug-up roads, he said. Additional Municipal Commissioner (Projects) Abhijit Bangar, who was accompanying Bhushan Gagrani, directed that roads be opened to the public before May 31 to avoid inconvenience.
The lane marking work, which is underway near Rajiv Gandhi College in Andheri (West) on Juhu-Versova Link Road, was also inspected. Municipal Commissioner & Administrator Bhushan Gagrani commended the completion of cement road work on both sides of the roads. He expressed satisfaction that the ramp built at the entrance of the building has been well connected to the road, and the footpath works have been executed effectively. The slump cone test was conducted during the ongoing pavement quality concrete work at Goregaon-Mulund Link Road. This test is conducted to assess the proper proportion of cement and water used.
