In Bokkahalli village, the farmers have naturally gotten a good paddy crop due to the torrential rains that fell in May in Rampura Nala.

Farmers of Bokkahalli village, located in Nanjangud taluka of Mysuru district in Karnataka, have a good paddy crop this time. According to reports, the farmers here have carried out agricultural activities depending on the same water from the pre-monsoon rains that fell this time. For more than 50 acres, paddy cultivation has been done without relying on any river source. Now, the paddy has yielded, and the farmers are happy.

In Bokkahalli village, the farmers have naturally gotten a good paddy crop due to the torrential rains that fell in May in Rampura Nala. As the paddy crop requires a lot of water, water is obtained from canals. But this time the crop was grown with rainwater.

According to the farmers, if it rains well, they don’t need any river-source water for cultivation. This year, they have already preserved the paddy crop. They have grown paddy in an area of more than 50 acres using rainwater. A farmer added that this year they have grown crops at less cost and made more profit.

As per the India Meteorological Department, India’s monsoon has delivered a fifth less rain than normal so far this season. Since June 1, India has received 20 per cent less rainfall than normal including all regions except for a few southern states and due to hot waves in certain northern states.

Summer rains, critical to economic growth in Asia’s third-largest economy, usually begin in the south around June 1 before spreading nationwide by July 8, allowing farmers to plant crops such as rice, cotton, soybeans and sugarcane.

According to the data, the rain shortfall in soybean, cotton, sugarcane, and pulses-growing central India has risen to 29 per cent, while the paddy-growing southern region received 17 per cent more rainfall than normal due to the early onset of the monsoon.
